The Marangu Route, often called the “Coca-Cola” route, is the most established and well-known path to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Favored for its moderate slopes, this route is the only one offering hut accommodations in dormitory-style lodging, making it a popular choice for climbers.

Start your adventure with a morning pick-up from your hotel in Nairobi. Travel aboard a scheduled shuttle bus to Arusha, stopping at Namanga border for visa processing. Upon arrival in Arusha, check in at Center Inn Hotel or similar. The afternoon is dedicated to organizing trekking gear and hiring any necessary equipment. Overnight stay at the hotel with breakfast included. Lunch and dinner are at your own arrangement.

  • Distance: 8.1 km
  • Habitat: Montane Forest

After breakfast, meet your trekking team and drive to the Kilimanjaro National Park gate for registration. Begin your trek through the lush rainforest, reaching Mandara Hut by evening. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at the hut.

  • Distance: 11.6 km
  • Habitat: Moorland

Continue trekking through a forested area, passing the Maundi Crater before emerging into the moorland. Take in stunning views of Kibo Crater and Kilimanjaro’s unique flora, including giant lobelia and groundsel. Arrive at Horombo Hut for dinner and overnight.

  • Distance: 9.6 km
  • Habitat: Alpine Desert

After breakfast, resume your climb towards Kibo Hut, crossing the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. This high-altitude camp serves as the launching point for the final summit attempt. Rest early in preparation for the climb to Uhuru Peak.

  • Hiking Time: 7-8 hours ascent, 6-8 hours descent
  • Distance: 5.4 km ascent, 15 km descent
  • Habitat: Ice-capped summit

Start your ascent at midnight, passing Hans Meyer Cave and reaching Gillman’s Point (5,681m) before pushing to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Take in breathtaking views and capture unforgettable memories before descending back to Kibo Hut for breakfast and rest. Later, continue to Horombo Hut for an overnight stay.

  • Distance: 19.7 km

Descend through lush rainforest, passing Mandara Hut on your way to the park gate. Upon arrival, receive a summit certificate to commemorate your achievement. Transfer back to Arusha for a well-deserved rest at your hotel.

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before boarding a shuttle back to Nairobi or proceeding to Zanzibar for an extended adventure.
