Your adventure begins with a morning departure from Nairobi to Arusha via shuttle bus, enjoying scenic views along the way. Arrive in Arusha or Moshi, where you’ll have time to prepare for the trek. Overnight stay at a comfortable hotel on a bed-and-breakfast basis. Lunch and dinner at your own arrangement.
After breakfast, a briefing sets the stage for your climb. A short drive takes you to Kilimanjaro National Park Gate, where you register before beginning the trek. As you ascend through the lush rainforest, keep an eye out for Colobus monkeys and vibrant birdlife. A detour to Maundi Crater offers breathtaking views of Kenya and Northern Tanzania before reaching Mandara Hut for the night.
Leaving the rainforest behind, the trail transitions into open moorlands as you ascend toward Horombo Hut. Along the way, admire giant lobelias and groundsels while enjoying spectacular views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. This is where altitude effects may begin to be felt. For those who prefer an acclimatization day, an extra night can be arranged at Horombo Hut.
The trek continues past the last water source as you ascend towards the saddle of Kilimanjaro, a vast alpine desert between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The barren, lunar-like landscape is surreal. Arriving at Kibo Hut, you’ll rest early, preparing for the midnight ascent to the summit.
Your summit attempt starts at midnight under the starlit sky. The steep ascent through scree and snow leads you first to Gilman’s Point (5,681m) before the final push to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa! Take in the breathtaking sunrise and capture unforgettable memories. After celebrating, descend to Kibo for rest before continuing to Horombo Hut for a well-earned sleep.
Enjoy a leisurely descent through moorland and rainforest to Mandara Hut and onward to Marangu Gate. At lower elevations, the climate becomes warmer, so lighter clothing is recommended. After completing park formalities, a vehicle will transfer you back to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi for a comfortable night’s rest. Dinner at your own arrangement.
