How Much Does a Kenya Safari Cost? Real Prices Explained
What a Kenya safari really costs per person per day for budget, midrange and luxury trips, what makes up the price, and how to get the best value.
The price of a Kenya safari depends on four things: where you stay, which parks you visit, how you travel between them, and when you go. Below are realistic ranges from our own packages, so you can budget with confidence.
Typical price per person per day
- Group joining safari: from about US$140 per day. You share a 4x4 safari vehicle with other travellers and stay in simple camps.
- Private budget safari: about US$320 to US$420 per day, with your own vehicle and driver-guide and comfortable budget camps.
- Private midrange safari: about US$450 to US$550 per day, with good lodges and tented camps.
- Private luxury safari: about US$620 to US$1,100 per day, with top lodges and camps; fly-in safaris are at the top of this range.
These are per person, based on two people sharing a room and a vehicle. Solo travellers pay more because the vehicle cost is not shared.
What is included in the price?
A good safari quote should include:
- Accommodation and meals (full board on safari)
- Park and reserve entry fees, and concession fees
- A private 4x4 safari vehicle with an English-speaking driver-guide, and fuel
- Bottled drinking water during game drives
- Airport or hotel pick-up and drop-off
International flights, visas, travel insurance, tips and drinks are normally extra.
Why park fees matter
Park fees are a large part of the cost. In 2026 the Masai Mara charges non-residents about US$100 per person per day in the low season and US$200 in the high season. Amboseli and Lake Nakuru charge around US$100 per day. On a short Mara safari, park fees can be a third of the total.
Ways to get better value
- Travel in the low season (January to June). Park fees and lodge rates are lower.
- Join a group safari if you travel alone or on a tight budget.
- Stay longer in fewer parks. Less driving and more time watching wildlife.
- Book early for July to October, when the best camps fill up.
Is a fly-in safari worth it?
Flying from Nairobi's Wilson Airport to the Masai Mara takes about 45 minutes instead of a five-to-six-hour drive. It adds roughly US$250 to US$300 per person each way, but saves a day of travel. It is worth it on short trips.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a 3-day Masai Mara safari cost?
A 3-day Masai Mara group joining safari starts from about US$420 per person. A private budget safari starts from about US$1,090, and a private midrange safari from about US$1,410 per person.
Are park fees included in a Kenya safari price?
With Javiva Adventures, yes. All our package prices include park entry fees and concession fees.
Is it cheaper to book a safari in Kenya or Tanzania?
Kenya is usually cheaper for a short safari, because the Masai Mara is close to Nairobi and Tanzania's park and crater fees are higher.
Do I need to pay the full price when I book?
No. Private safaris need a 40% deposit to confirm, with the balance due two weeks before travel. Kenya group joining safaris need a 30% deposit.
