Amboseli is the classic picture of Africa: herds of elephants walking across the plains with snow-capped Kilimanjaro rising behind them. The park is famous for its large, relaxed elephant families, studied here for decades.
Swamps fed by Kilimanjaro's snowmelt keep Amboseli green even in the dry season, attracting buffalo, hippos and a huge variety of birds.
